We started from zero and built everything from the ground up. End-to-end, all in-house, done right.

At the start, the request was simple. Create an app that scans and stores a digital copy of the green card for insurance purposes on a mobile phone. The idea was born out of new legislation allowing motorists to present their insurance digitally during police checks. That was the entire brief. But, as is often the case, the client kept adding more ideas, turning a simple request into a never-ending wishlist.

We quickly stepped in to streamline the process and defined a clear scope for the app. Our proposal: a straightforward application that uses OCR to scan the Green Card, stores it securely, and sends users notifications when their insurance is about to expire. Alongside this, the client also requested a user login feature, requiring every user to create an account. We immediately pushed back on this idea. It was clear to us that the app’s success would hinge on being frictionless, no unnecessary blockers, like account creation, which many users still associate with intrusive practices. While this perception is slowly changing, we knew simplicity would drive traction. Our priority was ensuring a seamless, user-first experience, and we delivered exactly that.

The app uses OCR technology to effortlessly extract all necessary information and securely store it. It then notifies users about upcoming expirations and suggests exploring the market for new or potentially cheaper insurance options, helping users save on their premiums.

A secondary benefit introduced shortly after the launch of the first version was the ability to store important documents and dates, such as highway toll sticker expiration, vehicle inspection validity, or parking permit renewals. All of this can be managed for an unlimited number of entries. Additionally, the app supports the management of an unlimited number of vehicles, ensuring users have full control over their fleet in one place.

This guide begins by explaining and outlining the essential steps to take when an accident occurs. It first ensures the safety of everyone involved by checking if anyone is injured. If injuries are present, the guide prioritizes providing first aid instructions and contacting emergency services.

If no one is injured, the app moves forward with guiding users through the process to ensure nothing is overlooked for a valid insurance claim. It automatically records the time and location of the incident using the phone’s GPS. The app then leads users step-by-step through photographing the accident from all necessary angles, ensuring no critical information or evidence is missed, which could delay or complicate an insurance claim.

Once the process is complete, the app allows users to send a full accident report, including photos, to the other party involved or to save the report by emailing themselves a link. This link provides access to a neatly formatted web interface for easy review of the entire incident. The app simplifies what can be a stressful and overwhelming situation, ensuring users handle accidents efficiently and thoroughly.

The app includes a streamlined Notification Center that provides users with a clear overview of all notifications sent to them. To maintain functionality for all users, including those without an account, the app employs a clever solution: notifications are sent and managed locally on the device. This approach mimics server side behavior based on pre-configured settings, ensuring no user misses out on the app’s capabilities.

By handling notifications locally, the app guarantees seamless reminders and updates without the need for user registration. Whether it’s notifying about an expiring document or a vehicle related task, the system ensures every user enjoys the full range of features while keeping the experience simple and hassle free. This approach allows the app to provide a personalized and reliable notification experience for everyone.

As a thoughtful extra touch, the app automatically reminds users of the intervals for switching between winter and summer tires. While it’s not a must-have feature, it’s certainly a nice-to-have that adds value and convenience.
